Is Your East Tennessee Home Radon Safe?

Radon gas is the #1 cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. We provide NRPP-Certified testing and mitigation designed specifically for the unique geology of Knoxville and Oak Ridge.

The Radon Reality in Knoxville & Oak Ridge

Radon gas is a silent carcinogen that enters your home through a physical process called the Stack Effect. In East Tennessee, our unique topography and shale-rich soil composition create a high-pressure environment for soil gases. As warm air escapes your home, it creates a vacuum that pulls radioactive gas out of the uranium-rich soil and into your living space.

Because radon is colorless and odorless, 1 in 3 homes in our region unknowingly exceeds the EPA action limit. Professional, NRPP-certified testing is the only way to verify the safety of your indoor air quality.

Why Testing is Non-Negotiable

The EPA estimates that radon causes 21,000 lung cancer deaths annually. In high-risk Zone 1 counties like Anderson, Knox, and Blount, professional measurement is the first line of defense for your family.

Know What to Ask

7 Questions to Ask Any Radon Mitigation Company

Most homeowners never think to ask these. Most companies are hoping you won't. Here is how Rn86 Solutions answers every one.

01

Are your people certified by NRPP or NRSB?

The national standard requires at least one certified professional on every job, with a minimum of 32 hours of specialized education plus biennial recertification.

✔ Rn86: Multiple NRPP-certified team members on every installation.

02

Is a certified professional on-site the entire time?

The standard requires a qualified professional to verify the full installation before sign-off. A drive-by at the end of the day does not meet that requirement.

✔ Rn86: A certified professional is present from first drill to final check. No exceptions.

03

Do you perform PFE testing before AND after installation?

Pressure Field Extension testing determines whether the system will work before a single hole is drilled. Skipping it means the system is designed on guesswork, not data.

✔ Rn86: PFE testing is the first step on every job and verified again after installation.

04

What size pipe do you use, and how is that determined?

The standard requires Schedule 40 PVC sized to your slab's actual airflow needs based on PFE data. Undersized or wrong-material pipe is a code violation that costs you protection.

✔ Rn86: 3-inch and 4-inch Schedule 40 PVC, sized to your job's PFE results. Every time.

05

Is an audible alarm included in the base price?

The AARST standard requires an active notification monitor on every fan-based system. Think of it as the smoke detector for your radon system. It should never be an add-on.

✔ Rn86: Audible alarm included in every quote as standard equipment. Never an upcharge.

06

Do you conduct AARST-compliant post-mitigation testing?

The standard requires post-mitigation testing within 30 days using an NRPP-approved device. The standard also recommends independent third-party testing for full objectivity.

✔ Rn86: Post-mitigation testing on every install. We also encourage independent third-party verification.

07

Do you use a calibrated, NRPP-approved Continuous Radon Monitor?

A Continuous Radon Monitor logs hourly data and includes tamper-detection. A charcoal canister gives one averaged snapshot that can be skewed by humidity, drafts, or tampering.

✔ Rn86: Every post-mitigation test uses an NRPP-approved, calibrated CRM. No charcoal canisters.
